It seems that financial issues are the reason for both broadcasters to withdraw. The Lithuanian broadcaster has said there was no budget for Junior Eurovision after the Euro 2012 and the Summer Olympics this year. The Latvian broadcaster gave no details about the reason behind their withdrawal, but it is known that they had funding problems the past years as well.
Lithuania participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest four times since 2007, only missing 2009. In their four participations, they scored three top ten placings, with a third place in 2008 for Eglė Jurgaitytė and her song Laiminga Diena.
Latvia participated five times. They debuted in the first ever contest in 2003 and withdrew after 2005. In 2010 they made a comeback. Their best result is a nineth place, in 2003, for Dzintars Čīča and the song Tu Esi Vasarā. Latvia came last twice, in 2004 and 2011.
