Terrorist attack avoided in Baku?


The Azeri National Security Ministry released information today stating that an armed criminal group planning to launch a terrorist attack against innocent spectators, artists and crew during the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 final were arrested.


Some 40 people were arrested in the weeks before the song contest. They would have planned an armed assault in the arena and a murder assault on the president of Azerbaijan.


Azerbaijan did not want to release this information during the escweek, so not causing any panic.


Sietse Bakker, Project Manager of the Eurovision Song Contest of the EBU, said that Azerbaijan is capable enough to cope with this situation and that they were not informed about this.
